A few things to consider when choosing your domain name:

Choosing Extension
Try to stay away from strange and rare domain name extensions like .biz, .info etc... Sticking to .com or .net is the safest bet as they are the most commonly used extensions.

By Website Type
Use .org extension for non profits, organizations or governments, use .com for businesses, use .net for networking sites

By Location
Regional (country) extensions can be used (.ca | .co.uk | .au | .fr etc...) if your business is tied to a specific geographical location.

Syntax
Don't use dashes in the domain name, for example www.ex-ample.com is not as desirable as www.example.com , keep the name in one word only if possible.

If possible,don't use numbers in the domain name. If you must, use numbers as letters, like one, two etc...
